Arthur Turns 10 | Real-Life Family Moments Behind the Camera

Happy 10th Birthday to my cheeky chappy šŸŽˆšŸŽ‰

Double digits already… honestly, where has the time gone?! 🄹

Arthur turned 10 on Sunday, and of course I had visions of capturing a lovely milestone photo to mark the occasion. You’d think, as a family photographer, that getting beautiful, picture-perfect photos of my own children would be easy…

If only 🤣

I’m always told, ā€œYou must have such lovely, perfectly posed photos of your children!ā€Ā ā€” but the reality is usually much more chaotic, much less organised, and far more entertaining.

It’s actually quite rare that Arthur agrees to feature in photos on here (definitely not my choice šŸ˜‚), so the fact he allowed this one already felt like a huge success. But naturally,

Zoe had completely different plans and decided to gatecrash the entire thing šŸ¤£šŸ™ˆ

Safe to say, the calm and perfectly posed photo I had imagined quickly disappeared… but honestly, the end result felt far more special because of it.

Because this — the chaos, the interruptions, the laughter, the unexpected moments — is real family life.

And as much as we all love the beautifully smiling portraits, sometimes the photographs that end up meaning the most are the ones that capture personalities exactly as they are in that moment. The silly expressions, the sibling chaos, the uncontrollable laughter… those are often the memories we treasure most years later.

Photographing my own children reminds me constantly that family photography doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful. In fact, the imperfect moments are usually the ones filled with the most love.
