A first birthday is such a wonderful milestone. It's a celebration of twelve incredible months filled with first smiles, first cuddles, first adventures, and a whole year of watching your little one grow. It's a moment that deserves to be remembered and celebrated in a way that feels right for your family.
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful first birthday session for a lovely family who chose to keep their child's face private when sharing images online. It's a decision I completely understand and one that I am always happy to support.
Every family has their own comfort level when it comes to sharing photographs of their children. Some love to share every milestone, while others prefer to keep their little ones' identities off social media. There is no right or wrong choice—only what feels right for you and your family.
The wonderful thing about photography is that you don't have to show a face to tell a beautiful story.
During this session, we focused on all the little details that make a first birthday so special. Tiny hands exploring, little feet taking confident steps, birthday outfits, gentle cuddles with Mum and Dad, and all the love that surrounded this milestone. These photographs captured the joy and connection of the day while completely respecting the family's wishes.
Some of my favourite images are often the quiet, in-between moments. A hand held tightly, a cuddle shared, the excitement of exploring a birthday cake, or the proud smile on a parent's face as they watch their little one grow. These photographs are filled with emotion, even without showing every detail.
When you book a session with me, your comfort and your family's privacy always come first. Whether you're happy for your photographs to be shared as part of my portfolio or you'd prefer to keep them completely private, your wishes will always be respected. Every family is different, and I believe your photography experience should reflect what makes you feel most comfortable.
At the end of the day, these photographs are for you. They're a way to preserve the memories of a fleeting chapter that you'll never get back—a reminder of just how small
your little one once was and how much love surrounded them from the very beginning.
Thank you to this lovely family for allowing me to capture such a special milestone. It was an honour to celebrate your little one's first birthday, and I'm so grateful to have been trusted with these precious memories.
If you're planning a milestone session for your little one, I'd love to help you create timeless photographs that celebrate your family's story while always respecting your privacy and preferences.
