The Best of Both Worlds: Combining Outdoor & Studio Newborn Photography

When it comes to newborn photography, every family has their own vision. Some dream of soft, natural outdoor portraits surrounded by beautiful scenery, while others love the timeless feel of studio images that focus on every tiny newborn detail.

The wonderful thing is—you don't have to choose.

One of my recent newborn sessions combined the best of both worlds, beginning outdoors before moving into the studio to create a gallery filled with variety, warmth, and beautiful memories.

We started outside, making the most of the peaceful surroundings and natural light. These photographs captured the love and connection between the family in a relaxed setting, with gentle cuddles, quiet moments together, and plenty of opportunities to simply enjoy being together. Outdoor sessions have such a natural, timeless feel and create beautiful images that tell the story of your family's newest chapter.

Afterwards, we moved into the studio, where the focus shifted to the newest arrival.

This is where we captured all those tiny details that change so quickly in those first few weeks of life. The delicate eyelashes, wisps of soft hair, perfectly curled fingers, tiny toes, button noses, and peaceful sleepy expressions. These are the little features that parents never want to forget but are often the first to change as babies grow.

By combining both locations, families receive a beautifully balanced gallery that tells a complete story. Alongside the emotional family portraits are the timeless close-up images that celebrate every precious detail of your newborn. Together, they create a collection of photographs that you'll treasure for years to come.

One of the things I love most about offering this experience is the flexibility it gives families. There's no need to choose between the relaxed beauty of an outdoor session and the classic elegance of studio newborn portraits—you can enjoy both in a single session.

The result is a gallery that feels natural, varied, and deeply personal, capturing not only what your baby looked like in those precious first weeks but also the love, connection, and excitement that surrounded them.

These early days pass by so quickly. Before you know it, those tiny toes will have grown, the sleepy cuddles will become busy adventures, and your little newborn will be taking their first steps. Photographs allow you to hold onto these fleeting moments forever.

If you're expecting a baby and would love a newborn session that combines relaxed outdoor family portraits with beautiful studio images of your newest arrival, I'd be delighted to help create a gallery that tells your family's story from every angle.
